About the Jewish Learning Network
Our Mission
Established in 2006, the Jewish Learning Network fulfills the Lubavitcher Rebbe's vision of encouraging all Jews to set fixed times for Torah study. The organization bridges gaps in Jewish knowledge by connecting those well-versed in Jewish teachings with individuals eager to explore their heritage.
"One should strive as much as possible, and more, to influence every single Jew, regardless of his location or circumstances, to designate a set time for Torah study. When one encounters a Jew in the street, one should ask him if he has already set a time for Torah study. If he has, one should influence him to increase further—ideally, by influencing him to become a teacher himself."
- The Rebbe (Hisva'aduyos 5745, Vol. 1, pp. 461-2)
What We Do
The Jewish Learning Network serves as a unique educational bridge, pairing knowledgeable Jewish volunteers with those seeking to deepen their understanding of their heritage. The service caters to a diverse array of individuals - from busy professionals and students to dedicated homemakers - all of whom share a desire to connect with their Jewish roots.
The organization facilitates personalized, one-on-one learning experiences that span the rich tapestry of Jewish wisdom. From unraveling the weekly Parsha to delving into the intricate details of Jewish Law, from engaging in the stimulating logical analysis of the Talmud to exploring the profound spirituality embedded in Chassidus and Kabbalah - these learning partnerships cover it all.
These partnerships are more than just study sessions; they're gateways to understanding, connection, and personal growth. Whether individuals are rekindling a connection with their heritage or embarking on a journey of Jewish discovery for the first time, the network provides a supportive, enriching environment for exploration.
Our Volunteers
The backbone of the network is the dedicated team of volunteer educators. These individuals, well-versed in Jewish teachings, generously share their time and knowledge to bring the warmth and wisdom of Torah to those who might otherwise have limited access.
Volunteers embrace the opportunity to share their understanding, embodying the Rebbe's guidance that even someone with limited knowledge should share what they know with those who know less. In just half an hour each week, these volunteers create meaningful connections that often blossom into deep, lasting relationships. Many find the experience so fulfilling that they're inspired to dedicate even more time to their study partners.
How It Works
The process is designed to create meaningful, lasting learning partnerships:
-
Interested individuals begin by applying online, sharing their background and learning goals.
-
Applicants participate in a brief interview, allowing the Jewish Learning Network to understand their needs and preferences.
-
Within one to two weeks, the organization carefully matches each applicant with a compatible study partner.
-
Participants then embark on their learning journey, exploring Jewish wisdom at their own pace.
-
Throughout the experience, the Jewish Learning Network provides ongoing support and regular check-ins to ensure each learning partnership thrives.
Additional Programs
The Jewish Learning Network offers several programs to enhance the learning experience:
-
Volunteer Rewards: A program to recognize and appreciate the dedication of volunteer educators.
-
Hebrew Reading Track: A separate track focused on developing Hebrew reading skills.
-
Seasonal Learning Programs: Community-based initiatives where learning pairs can join to study the same topic and text, fostering a sense of collective growth and connection.
-
Judaic Journey Platform: A recently launched program allowing individuals to engage paid tutors for more frequent and in-depth learning experiences.
Support
The Jewish Learning Network operates as a non-profit organization, committed to making these invaluable learning experiences accessible to all, free of charge. It relies on the generosity of donors who share the vision of a more connected, educated Jewish community. Support enables the continuation of bridging gaps in Jewish knowledge and fostering meaningful connections within the community.
By supporting the Jewish Learning Network, individuals are not just contributing to an organization - they're investing in the continuity of Jewish wisdom and the strengthening of Jewish identity for generations to come.
